It was a very meaningful experience of curated the show, this time the curator team tried to make a more free space for the works, which means it’s not like one work in one space, not keeping them in frames. That created more possibilities for the space and art works. It was an integral process of managing all the art works, space and light, it also was a process of thinking, understanding the relationship between them, then sharing and communicating with each other in curation team and the artists as well. One day before the show, all the artists and tutor were there to have a talk, and finally we have made some changes with fresh eyes and ideas, that was brilliant to join the curator team and gained a lot experiences of curation team work.

In The Shadow Of A Subterranean River

25 artists from the MFA course of Wimbledon College of Art have had a show named “In The Shadows of A Subterranean River” in the Crypt Gallery in October 2016. Except being one artist of the show, I also took part in the curator team with another five artists from the course. Due to the very special space of the Crypt Gallery, we thought the topic of each work should probably be made after well considering the special space. We had one meeting before the last summer, asked the artists to visit the gallery and consider the space, and the curation team asked for a brief proposal of the work before October, because it would be very helpful of mapping and make things more clear.

At the very beginning of this term, the curation team collected most proposals and roughly mapped the works on a paper map, and mark out the artist who asked for a certain space. We spend three days in the gallery with the people from technical team, tried our best to figure out how to make these different works could work together in the space.
